Phenol is mainly used for the production of bisphenol A, an intermediate product in the process for the manufacturing of polycarbonate and epoxy resins. Phenol also finds widespread use as a raw material for the production of caprolactam (raw material for nylon 6 fiber and nylon 6 resin) and phenolic resins and is a precursor for other areas of application; from insulation and coatings to medical products, disinfectants and food additives.
